Our Speaker this month is Noeline Tomlinson - Aeoniums cultivated in Australia
The name Aeonium is derived from the ancient Greek word “aionos” meaning “ageless”. Most of about 35 species of Aeonium native to the Canary Islands have clusters of yellow, white, pink or red flowers. After flowering, that rosette dies. Aeoniums change considerably according to seasons as well as growing conditions. There are now some very colourful hybrids, plus a few taxonomic changes to learn.
Noelene was a CSSA Committee member including as vice-President for about 10 years, was the Librarian for about 17 years, and is a Life member of the Society. She has grown and propagated cacti and succulents for 60 years. Her special interest is Crassulaceae, many of her photographs are on www.crassulaceae.ch. Over the past 10 years, she has given an annual talk at a CSSA meeting, on a particular genus, with photographs she has taken, and brief notes on each plant, to be published later in the Society’s journals. She has also contributed many other articles since she joined the CSSA in 2000. Noelene gave Powerpoint presentations about succulents to a CSS NSW meeting, CSS Get-Togethers in Mildura in 2015 and Gosford in 2017, and Succulenticon 2018 in Perth.
